On Wednesday, November 13, the Tucker Summit CID business owners and members gathered at Stone Ridge Event Center to get updates on developments and improvements in the district. DeKalb County CEO-elect Lorraine Cochran-Johnson spoke about her focus on growing DeKalb County and leveraging existing resources to attract businesses that will result in business development in DeKalb County. TSCID President Emory Morsberger is on CEO-elect Cochran-Johnson’s transition team where they will address ongoing matters like public safety, infrastructure, responsible government and more.
John McHenry, the City of Tucker’s City Manager, and Larry Kaiser, the CID’s infrastructure engineer, provided updates on upcoming infrastructure improvements like two new turn lanes on Mountain Industrial Boulevard at Hugh Howell Road and safety improvements on Mountain Industrial Boulevard at Highway 78. Lighting improvements are still in progress with the next phase of installation slated for the winter.
“There is no cheaper way to reduce crime than by lighting up the district,” said Emory Morsberger.

On Tuesday, November 12, DeKalb County District 1 Commissioner Robert Patrick held a townhall meeting to discuss the county’s water and sewer rates. Commissioner Patrick expressed how important it was for residents and business owners to receive the latest information on rate changes and the impact it will have on infrastructure and efficient services in the future. Committee members District 2 Commissioner Michelle Long Spears, District 6 Commissioner Ted Terry, along with District 5 Commissioner Mereda Davis Johnson also attended the meeting.
Attendees also heard from the Public Works & Infrastructure (PWI) committee about the upcoming rate increase vote, which is on the November 19 Board of Commissioners’ business meeting agenda.
A primary concern raised by residents—both those attending in person and virtually—was affordability, as well as the potential requirement for condominium and multi-family housing complexes to install individual water meters.
The meeting will be available to view in its entirety on Commissioner Patrick’s website and Facebook page. View presentation here.

Located at 1940 Forge Street, Doug MacLean founded MacLean Machinery in 2010. After leaving his 15-year partnership with Redwood International Machinery (at the same location), MacLean started a refurbishing program and found success in selling pre-owned Amada machines, used for pressing sheet metal, turret punching and general fabrication.
In 2020, Doug’s son, Shaun MacLean, took the business a step further with IPG LightWELD equipment and training. Also located within the 18,000 square-foot facility, Shaun’s LightWELD division distributes handheld and robotic laser welders. Shaun provides the training for any user to become an expert and also produces high-end instructional videos for not only the welding machinery but for large corporations like RAS Systems USA.
The MacLeans anticipate laser welding will be a game-changer, and they are prepared to scale for growth. We love to see such innovation in our district!
