Recently, Senate Bill 146 was signed into law as Act 248 by Governor Brian Kemp on May 2. This Bill pertains to the jurisdiction of and powers and duties of the Georgia Public Service Commission regarding the trade practices and taxation of electric vehicles.
However, House Bill 52, which was entitled to amend Title 32 relating to highways, bridges and ferries so as to amend notice provisions relative to meetings for the elected board members to provide for the development and maintenance of a state-wide freight and logistics implantation plan, among others, was passed by the Georgia House and Senate and sent to the Governor’s office. Governor Kemp vetoed the bill on May 5 because of a late amendment that altered certain provisions.
When the Governor vetoes a Bill, the General Assembly may override the veto with a two-thirds vote by each House during the next session in January 2024.

Plaza Security CEO Jim Tate will be celebrating his 10th anniversary with the company this year. With degrees in criminal justice as well as forensics, paired with 22 years of experience as a private contractor with licenses and certifications as a private investigator and firearms instructor, Jim’s expertise is a valuable asset in keeping our district safe.
For the past 11 years since the CID’s creation, Plaza Security has been patrolling the district working in conjunction with the police as a deterrent to criminal activity. With a staff of more than 40 security officers and 20 police officers, Plaza Security prides itself on its relationship with the business owners and CID members.
Jim stresses the importance of situational awareness to minimize becoming a target of crime. By paying attention, securing your valuables and limiting access to your property, you make it harder for criminals to victimize you. His biggest advice to impart is to look out for your neighbor. If you see something – say something, because if something seems “off,” it probably is.
When he’s not occupied with protecting the public, Jim likes to spend his spare time riding motorcycles and barbequing at home with his wife, two kids, two dogs and two cats.

The district’s international “incubator,” gatc lp, has a new business thriving in the U.S. market. FIDLOCK is an innovative magnetic fasteners and lock company. Founded in Germany, FIDLOCK’s creator Joachim Fiedler, a former musician, needed an easy way to secure his bow to his cello. From there the concepts grew to securing biking and outdoor accessories, kitchen utensils, camera and phone mounting accessories and more.
Located at 5126 South Royal Atlanta Drive, gatc is the domestic gateway for foreign companies to enter and operate in the U.S. market by supplying administrative and operational resources to these companies while they grow and expand.
