COVID-19 (Coronavirus): What You Need
To Know
| |
The outbreak and spread of COVID-19, or Coronavirus, has been very prominent in the news and misinformation has greatly contributed to rising fears. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has created content to explain the facts and steps to prevent its spread.
While anyone can become sick after contracting COVID-19, those who are most likely to succumb to the virus and become gravely ill are those who have chronic medical conditions or a weakened/compromised immune system such as the elderly and those with an autoimmune deficiency. Those who have been in complete quarantine or have been released from isolation do not pose a risk of infection to other people.
Symptoms of COVID-19 consist of fever, cough and shortness of breath. Seek medical advice if these symptoms develop and you have also been in close contact with an infected person or traveled to an area with an ongoing spread of the virus.
In order to stay healthy and prevent the spread of germs and bacteria, wash your hands often, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing and stay home when sick.
For more information and advice on the coronavirus, please visit the CDC website and visit the Johns Hopkins website for situation updates on the outbreak.

Amazon Delivered Keynote Address at Partnership Gwinnett Movers & Makers Event
| |
Robert Packett, Amazon’s southeastern regional director of operations, gave the keynote address at the Partnership Gwinnett Movers & Makers Awards on March 5. Audience members, consisting of business owners from both Gwinnett and DeKalb Counties, were interested in not only the progress of the 640,000 square foot facility – scheduled for completion before the 2020 holiday season – but also the $1.2 billion impact it will have on the Georgia economy. “Small business will no longer be limited by geographic location,” said Packett. “More than $1 billion local fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) products have been sold.”
Packet revealed that the key to Amazon’s two-day delivery success is technology and infrastructure; proximity to the customer and a shortened delivery window; robotics and conveyance and partnerships in the logistics network. He also stated that Amazon currently enjoys great partnerships with the state and looks forward to being a part of the community now and for many years to come.
More information on Robert Packett’s Amazon presentation and the Movers & Makers event can be found on the Business RadioX website.

TSCID-sponsored robotics team, Team Reboot, put up a well-fought battle against one of the top FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) teams in this year’s Star Wars-themed competition. Though Reboot lost this bout in the PCH Dalton quarterfinal, the team learned a great deal and intend to update the design, including securing the air tubes better to shoot more balls and also adding lift capabilities for an added advantage for their next match up.
