Meet New DeKalb Chief of Police Mirtha Ramos

Mirtha Ramos initially had no idea that she wanted to leave Miami, Florida and take on the new DeKalb Chief of Police position until DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond reached out to her and gave her the job description. Once she learned of the need, she knew that she wanted to be a part of making a difference in DeKalb.

Chief Ramos is still acclimating to the difference in dynamics and resource size from Miami to DeKalb moving from an agency of 5,000 to 1,000. However, she feels that what remains the same is gaining and retaining the trust of her officers, as well as the community, through communication.

Another Tucker Summit CID business is growing! Tucker Brewing has announced its release of the barrel-aged version of a high-gravity dark lager, Sir Doppelbock. This year’s brew has been aged in whiskey barrels from ASW Distillery. Though made with hops, the taste is all about the malt that ensures a mash-up of bitter and sweet all in a smooth velvety beverage.

Tucker Brewing plans to open its kitchen Q1 2020, and with the plumbing and electrical installed, the next items are the tile and kitchen equipment. We can’t wait!

FODAC Calls for Donations for the New Year

If you are cleaning out your home for a fresh start to the new year, Friends of Disabled Adults & Children (FODAC) asks that you consider donating your home medical equipment. FODAC collects used equipment — that would otherwise wind up in a landfill — to refurbish, recycle and provide medical devices to those in need.

FODAC’s thrift store also accepts clothing and other household items that may be taking up space in your home. All donations are 100% tax-deductible.

Team Reboot Has Found a Home

Team Reboot, has found a home! Bill Dowden of Coastal Pond Supply has generously opened up the top floor of his warehouse for TSCID-sponsored FIRST robotics team to meet and build their robots. He will also be assisting Team Reboot in moving their equipment and clearing out their storage unit this weekend.

Tucker Manufacturing Day Returns April 22

The second annual Tucker Manufacturing Day will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at Stone Ridge Event Center. The Tucker Summit CID, Tucker-Northlake CID and City of Tucker partnership will bring another day filled with panels and facility tours of community businesses.

Freight Advisory Task Force Transportation Tech Showcase

The Georgia Department of Transportation would like to invite you to its upcoming event, the GDOT Transportation Tech Showcase. With a focus on connected vehicle technology, you’ll get to see some of the best ideas in intelligent transportation demonstrated live. Last January, there was a Freight Advisory Task Force meeting focused on transportation technology, so this event will be your opportunity to witness the technology in person and ask questions.

Scheduled speakers include GDOT Commissioner Russell McMurry, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and Georgia Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan.

TSCID Project Updates

TSCID and the City of Tucker had a kick-off meeting with GDOT regarding the startup design work for improvements at the SR-236 and Mountain Industrial Boulevard intersection.
Construction of the Mountain Industrial Boulevard raised landscape median project began last week. Completion is slated for the end of the month pending weather.
TSCID and the Board of Education are still in discussions to evaluate details for the shared driveway access for Crespac and Smokerise Elementary School.
