Forming Foundations at Flintstone Drive and Smoke Rise Elementary School

School is back in session! The new Smoke Rise Elementary School at Flintstone Drive and Hugh Howell Road welcomed faculty, staff and new students last week with freshly paved and painted curbs and turn medians.

Grading and drainage work will continue as crews complete sidewalk construction and sodding. Due to a manufacturing delay, the new traffic signal is not yet operational but the DeKalb County Board of Education has an officer on site to direct traffic during the school rush.

Making sure this critical intersection is functional and safe for faculty, parents and commuters has been an incredible partnership between the CID, City of Tucker, Georgia DOT, DeKalb County and the Board of Education!

Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child

Needs Warehouse Space

Samaritan’s Purse needs our district’s help! Operation Christmas Child is the world’s largest Christmas project reaching more than 10 million children living in more than 100 countries. The organization collects gift-filled shoeboxes from all over the country and processes them through regional warehouses to prepare for overseas shipment. An Atlanta warehouse processed 1.5 million shoebox gifts last year.

Samaritan’s Purse’s needs are as follows:

  • Located in Gwinnett County or DeKalb County (Stone Mountain area would be good as well)
  • Occupancy starting September 1 through either January or February (6-month use)
  • 80,000+ square feet
  • 6+ dock doors
  • Office space approximately 1,500-2,000 sq. ft. (can work around this if warehouse has no office space)
  • As much parking as possible (or off-site parking options nearby)
The warehouse would be in use 6 days a week starting the week of Thanksgiving until December 20. Please contact Phil Barks if you are able to assist with warehouse space.
