Tucker's Economic Development Strategic Plan
The City of Tucker began formulating its Economic Development Strategic Plan in Fall 2021. The City’s Economic Development Manager Jackie Moffo researched plans from many regional metro cities, targeting those that most closely resembled Tucker. The information she gathered provided the necessary industry sector data points along with inflow and outflow maps to generate a better understanding of Tucker’s current businesses – all to determine future programs the City needs to create to better foster those industries and attract more businesses.

With the goal of drawing more businesses and industries to Tucker, the plan also will identify where residents work to determine if they have to leave the community for certain industries. The plan would then create a blueprint to recruit industries that would require less commuting by its citizens.

To accomplish this, the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) may be able to provide incentives such as tax abatements, expedited zoning and other similar programs that would appeal to those targeted industries. The DDA intends to work closely with Tucker Summit CID and Tucker-Northlake CID and plans to collect community input through public meetings and surveys. Check the City of Tucker calendar for meeting updates.

The City has begun work with KB Advisory Group on the plan and it is slated for completion in March 2023.

The Incredible Corridor has a new website!

Be sure to check IncredibleCorridor.com for updates on the 17.5-mile stretch of road from Jimmy Carter Boulevard in Gwinnett County to Mountain Industrial Boulevard in DeKalb County.

Beginning this fall, a new free transit option will launch to help hundreds of workers get to their jobs more easily. The transit line will be the first in the state that has been planned and launched by two cooperating Community Improvement Districts.

The transit line will include four free-to-ride 25-person buses that will run during peak shift changes every 30 minutes to start. Click here to see the proposed route. The route, which will begin and end at the Doraville MARTA station, is currently being finalized.
Tucker Manufacturing Day
The City of Tucker is hosting the next Tucker Manufacturing Day at Tucker High School on Thursday, October 13. The event’s goal is to celebrate and support our manufacturing sector by sharing examples with students, teachers, and parents of what manufacturing is like today, and the career opportunities that are available in the field.

The City of Tucker is looking to fill booths with manufacturers, workforce development experts and economic development partners to represent their companies and speakers for hourly expert panels on careers in manufacturing, manufacturing and technology, green manufacturing and a peek into how all the departments of a manufacturing plant work.

Team Reboot Becomes Nonprofit
The TSCID-sponsored FIRST Robotics Team Reboot is now a nonprofit! For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) is an international youth organization that hosts FIRST Robotics competitions nationwide.

The Tucker team, Reboot #4080, which was the 2012 winner of the Highest Rookiest Seed Award in Georgia and 2013 winner of Georgia’s Peachtree Regional, was founded in 2012 and been mentored by TSCID engineers for the past 10 years! Since the pandemic, the young robotics enthusiasts have been in search of a location to build and test their robotic creations. That search may be soon coming to an end! More information to come while details are confirmed. Congratulations, Reboot, on achieving nonprofit status!

If you would like to help or support the robotics team, please contact Deneise Turner.

To further reduce crime in our area, Tucker Summit CID has also been coordinating the installation of new or enhanced street lights throughout the district.

Before installation commences, the county will need to establish street light districts to allow the CID/City/County to begin conversations with the business owners in each street light district on the annual cost to be placed on their property tax bill. The CID will begin discussing the strategy for developing various street lighting districts with the county. Although there will likely be several street light districts, it’s possible that installations may occur at different time periods in 2023.

Brightview has been doing a wonderful job with the maintenance and upgrades throughout our district. The new crepe myrtles along Mountain Industrial Boulevard and North and South Atlanta Royal Drives look incredible!

Ukraine Still Needs Our Help

I traveled to Ukraine in early June to help deliver scarce medical supplies desperately needed to save the lives of civilians trapped in the Russian crosshairs.

We have solicited help from many, and many have given generously. Even before I got involved, Friends of Disabled Adults and Children (FODAC), a Tucker-based disaster relief organization and their president, Chris Brand, had dedicated countless hours sending medical supplies while I was there.

I returned to Atlanta with an accelerated enthusiasm to aid the Ukrainians. In many ways, my humanitarian journey for Ukraine reached new levels after my return. I have continued to rally all those who will listen to assist in the effort. We formed HelpingUkraine.us as a centralized clearinghouse for our efforts, sharing the images and stories from those I met while embedded in the conflict, and I’ve begun somewhat of a speaking – really, pleading – tour with Atlanta-area groups to raise additional support and awareness.

Isn’t it the right thing to do to keep our support for Ukraine moving forward as the conditions change and the needs continue?
