Member Spotlight on LMI Systems: Surviving (and Defeating) a Ransomware Attack

The new year not only brought uncertainty from the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, but it also unleashed the malicious nature of the morally deficient who preyed upon the vulnerable and disadvantaged. Colonial Pipeline made news after a ransomware attack demanding $4.4 million in May earlier this year caused the company to shut down operations, causing delivery disruptions of millions of gallons of fuel throughout the southeast. Colonial Pipeline paid the ransom to get their operations back up — but did they have to?

TSCID’s own LMI Systems, Inc. came under attack in early January 2021 with a demand for $4.1 million — not only did they NOT pay it, but LMI recovered all of their data and systems within 12 hours with no disruption to business operations. How did they do it?

LMI’s Disaster Recovery Plan details step-by-step documentation for incident recovery protocols, which includes Backup Protection Documentation and Business Continuality Documentation. Their system’s backup plan encompasses five levels of recovery and the team was able to stop the attack at level three, remove the threat, then started reloading their server environment.

LMI is able to help companies with preventive measures to stave off potential attacks and recover data once a breach has occurred. Never pay ransom again!

Learn more about LMI’s step-by-step process in defeating their ransomware attack in their blog.

Tucker Manufacturing Day 2021

TSCID was proud to be a sponsor for the Second Annual Tucker Manufacturing Day at the Stone Ridge Event Center on August 25. The City of Tucker did an incredible job batting away the many curveballs 2021 threw at them to put on a successful event.

TSCID Board Secretary and JLL Real Estate Managing Director provided a commercial real estate update for the region and stated that Tucker and its nearby surrounding areas are attractive to prospective developers and forecasted sales volume per square foot to increase through 2025.
The first panel discussion, consisting of SteelMart’s CEO Paul Carling, PepsiCo’s Plant Director MacKenzie Minyard and Crespac’s CEO Peter Moon, explored the advantages of being located in Tucker and the staffing struggles they have experienced following the pandemic. The second panel followed with Decide DeKalb Business Retention & Expansion Manager Imani Beckles, Georgia Piedmont Technical College Vice President of Economic Development Dr. Irvin Clark, Metro Atlanta Chamber Senior Vice President of Public Policy & Business Climate Marshall Guest, Atlas Technical Consultants Georgia Division Lead Todd Long and Georgia Power Community & Economic Development Manager Brooke Perez who discussed resources available to Tucker business owners to help support their company’s growth, training and staffing.

Following the panels, attendees enjoyed behind-the-scenes tours of American Tables & Seating, Tucker Brewing Company and SteelMart.

Air Filter Sales & Services Finds Ideal Employee in

Job Fair Success Story

If you think Air Filter Sales & Services’ new driver looks a little familiar — you’re not wrong! Former Indianapolis Colts defensive back Fred Robinson recently started his ideal position as a box truck driver in his “pre-retirement” days.

Robinson, who concluded a full career as an electrical engineer and project manager for AT&T following his NFL career, first learned of the May TSCID “Back to Business” Job Fair from a radio ad and decided to check it out. He met with Air Filter Sales & Service President and TSCID Board Chair Joey Chapman, where they discussed the position and the small, family-like company culture. Chapman liked Robinson so much that he had him meet with his partner and issued an offer within two weeks.

The spring job fair was a collective effort between TSCID, the City of Tucker, WorkSource DeKalb and Georgia Piedmont Technical College. Chapman was impressed by the variety of talent who attended the job fair and represented a wide range of skills.

TSCID is once again partnering with the City of Tucker, Tucker-Northlake CID, Georgia Piedmont Technical College and WorkSource DeKalb to host a fall job fair on October 26 at Stone Ridge Event Center. Stay tuned for more details.

Cheers and Beers at the TSCID Member Mixer

Last month was our first in-person member mixer event of 2021. After the COVID-19 pandemic forced us into a long hiatus of online meetings and virtual events, vaccinations have allowed us to safely gather (outdoors) once again to network and mingle at Tucker Brewing Company.

Thank you to Spiller Industrial for sponsoring the event’s beverages! We look forward to hosting more get-togethers and fostering relationships among our business owners soon.

Be sure to enjoy German beers, food and trivia contests to celebrate Tucktoberfest September 18 – October 3 at our district’s award-winning Tucker Brewing Company!

Pierre Construction Group did an excellent job with new signage welcoming commuters to Tucker Summit CID at the borders of Mountain Industrial Boulevard. Mike Leach shined a light on the signs and new crepe myrtles by installing new lights along the raised medians.
