Tucker’s at It Again with the

Tucker “Back to Work Job Fair

Tucker Job Fair
TSCID is once again partnering with Tucker-Northlake CID, the City of Tucker, WorkSource DeKalb and Georgia Piedmont Technical College to ensure that Tucker businesses looking to hire have the opportunity to find quality workers at the Tucker “Back to Work” Job Fair on October 26 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Stone Ridge Event Center.

Ty West lists the Four Common Hiring Mistakes Small Businesses Should Avoid in this Atlanta Business Chronicle article and applauds our district for “casting a wider net” and extending our outreach to engage the incoming Afghan refugee community to help our businesses find employees in this upcoming job fair.

Additionally, the event partners will be enhancing promotion and outreach to attract more quality job seekers to our district. Not only will the WorkSource DeKalb mobile resource unit be available to assist with resume writing and interview skills, the DeKalb County Mobile COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic will also be on site to administer free Pfizer vaccines to those desiring an inoculation. The City of Tucker and WorkSource DeKalb will provide free shuttle transportation to and from the Lewis Road MARTA bus stop to the job fair.
“I am so proud of how our businesses in Tucker have come together to balance health and economic threats and thrive during the pandemic,” said Tucker Mayor Frank Auman. “We welcome anyone seeking work, especially those entering our community as refugees. These people, through no fault of their own, have had to flee their homes, and we are proud to assist them in getting their lives set up here in the United States. Partnering with great organizations like Tucker Summit and Tucker-Northlake CIDs, WorkSource DeKalb and Georgia Piedmont College is how we beat this pandemic and keep our economy on the right track.”

Advance DeKalb Conducts Workshop to Identify Key Infrastructure Investments

The Advance DeKalb Infrastructure Committee held its first in a series of workshops at Tucker City Hall on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, to focus on the Tucker Summit CID strategic development area and identify key infrastructure investments needed. Participants included Mayor Frank Auman, City Manager Tami Hanlin and Assistant City Manager John McHenry, Emory Morsberger from the Tucker Summit CID, Toni Hannah and Brooke Perez from Georgia Power, DeKalb Commissioners Steve Bradshaw, Lorraine Cochran-Johnson and Robert Patrick (who represent the Tucker area), as well as members of the Advance DeKalb Infrastructure Committee and the Decide DeKalb staff and board.

Advance DeKalb is a non-profit organization of business investors who are supporting the Decide DeKalb Economic Development Authority’s mission to recruit, retain and expand business opportunities in DeKalb County. Advance DeKalb has two main volunteer committees at present, one that is identifying and advocating for Workforce Development needs, and another that is identifying and advocating for Infrastructure needs for economic development (primarily water, sewer, transportation, transit and related infrastructure projects).

Georgia Power’s Community and Economic Development team is supporting these workshops through data gathering and analysis, and stakeholder engagement.

The group identified areas that will be researched and evaluated, then monitored year-over-year to determine if the targeted opportunities in the strategic plan are being achieved. They also identified water, sewer and transit priorities, so that issues like sewer availability and capacity, water flow and pressure, as well as transit accessibility support these opportunities both for the short-term and longer-term.
