The Tucker Pepsico bottling plant, located at 1644 Rock Mountain Boulevard, is planning a massive $260 million expansion that will add 136 jobs to our district.
The facility, which is expected to be complete by 2024, will expand by more than 260,000 square feet making it one of Pepsi’s largest manufacturing plants. By 2025, Pepsi estimates the Tucker plant’s production will quintuple due to its expansion.
| |
The plant currently employs 464 people, and the new positions will include roles in digitized manufacturing tools, artificial intelligence and augmented reality tools as well as real-time analytics for machine operators and mechanics raising the average wage for employees from $49,000 to $60,000. Learn more about the expansion and new positions here.
According to a story in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Tucker Mayor Frank Auman also lauded the deal, saying its important when companies “double down” on their existing businesses in the city.
The Decide DeKalb Development Authority was instrumental in brokering this deal, while the Georgia Department of Economic Development, Metro Atlanta Chamber, Georgia Quick Start and Georgia Power also deserve credit in helping to make this expansion possible.
“We are excited that another division of PepsiCo has chosen Georgia to grow their operations,” said Governor Kemp. “We applaud the City of Tucker and send our great thanks to them and to our economic development partners in DeKalb County and the City of Tucker, in addition to the Technical College System of Georgia for their continued efforts to create jobs and opportunities for hardworking Georgians.”
According to TSCID President Emory Morsberger, “this expansion could not have been possible without the incredible effort by DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond, who worked tirelessly to ensure the sewer and water requirements were in place to allow for such an expansion.”

| As a 24-year Tucker resident, longtime volunteer and public servant, Cara Schroeder played an instrumental role in the founding of the City. Her next natural next step was to run for the Tucker City Council District 2, Post 1 seat. Councilwoman Schroeder feels that the City of Tucker has made huge progress in its first six years and is passionate about contributing towards its future growth.
Council member Schroeder was an active member of Tucker’s Planning Commission, steering committee for the City’s parks and master plan, and has served on the Tucker Community Council from 2016-2020, so she is very familiar with CIDs and TSCID’s relationship with the City of Tucker, DeKalb County and Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). In addition, she is impressed with the CID’s list of accomplishments and has become familiar with many of the business owners in the district.
Tucker Manufacturing Day is one of the events she most looks forward to because it showcases a variety of the successful businesses in the community and demonstrates the economic growth potential to prospective business owners and commercial real estate professionals. Council member Schroeder believes the Lawrenceville Highway corridor is especially ripe for attracting more businesses, among other places within the district.
While her passions lie with expanding and maintaining the City’s greenspace and trails, the councilperson has been most impressed by the CID’s progress in traffic calming along the Mountain Industrial Corridor, public safety efforts and curb updates and repairs. Her number one priority is collaborating with TSCID on public safety and keeping Tucker’s citizens and visitors safe.
Council member Schroeder is dedicated to implementing and improving the Tucker Tomorrow Comprehensive Plan with input from the community and business owners. She appreciates being welcomed by the TSCID members and looks forward to building a better, greater Tucker in collaboration with them.

By 1968, there were approximately 30 buildings constructed within the Stone Mountain Industrial Park Historic District and during this time period Mountain Industrial Boulevard was widened from two to four lanes and extended north of the Georgia, Carolina & Northern Railroad (GCAN RR) mainline.
| |
In 2000, three more buildings were constructed and the easternmost rail spur was removed and replaced by a parking lot in 2002 (pictured).
The Royal Atlanta Development Corporation developed another industrial park in 1973 called the Atlanta-Tucker Industrial Park, just north of the historic district along Mountain Industrial Boulevard.
In an eligibility evaluation for the National Register for Historic Places (NRHP) and Georgia Register for Historic Places (GRHP), the organizations found the Stone Mountain Industrial Park Historic District to possess integrity in setting, design, materials, workmanship, feeling and association. The impact of this initial industrial park has been and continues to be incredible for Tucker.

Residents and business owners may see a 6% raise in water and sewer rates across DeKalb County after officials proposed the hike earlier this month.
DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond stated that he previously declined the rate hike until services provided were improved. However, the County needs more than $1 billion in revenue for repairs and upgrades currently underway.
Learn more about the County’s water and sewer issues and how it will affect TSCID members in this Atlanta Journal-Constitution article.
