TSCID Spotlight on Councilwoman Virginia Rece

Virginia Rece was elected to the Tucker City Council District 1, Post 2 seat in November 2021 after being selected to fill the seat of beloved Councilman Bill Rosenfeld when he suddenly passed away.

It was only natural that Rece run for City Council as she had worked closely with Rosenfeld during his re-election campaign for his last term on the Council and was already heavily involved in the Smoke Rise Civic Association (SRCA). She and Rosenfeld had become great friends and Rece felt this is what Rosenfeld would want her to do.

As the SRCA Chair for Public Safety and Government Relations, Rece was already familiar with TSCID’s work with the City of Tucker and Georgia Department of Transportation making improvements to the area and enhancing economic growth in the community. She has worked closely with Emory Morsberger to advocate on behalf of the City of Tucker at the DeKalb County’s Board of Commissioners meetings and has stayed informed by attending the TSCID owners’ meetings.

Rece believes that great economic growth begins with a good plan and that the inaugural Tucker City Council and City of Tucker have already put in significant work in designing methodical and thoughtful yet flexible plans. With an eye towards the future, Rece believes the city needs the ability to spot trends and pivot when necessary. She sites businesses along Lawrenceville Highway, just outside of the district, as examples of unorganized planning and zoning that can be improved now that Tucker is a city.

While the council member gets settled into her new position, her philosophy is to listen to the experts while doing her own research to understand the impact her decisions will have on her constituents. She is determined to serve in a way people know they can trust her and her judgment.

Rece most admires the beautification accomplishments of the CID and is passionate about transportation improvements that could make Tucker one of the most walkable cities in the state, which will then attract a younger population and retain the workforce in the community.
