SouthernCarlson
TSCID is excited to welcome SouthernCarlson to the district! The national distributor of construction packaging, manufacturing and facility maintenance tools and supplies recently leased a building at 4719 Hugh Howell Road from Link Logistics.
The new Tucker location, which is tentatively scheduled to open at a later date this year, joins seven other Georgia locations..
Welcome to the district!
Major Matthew Harden
Major Matthew Harden has been with the DeKalb County Police Department since 2005 and was sworn in as the new Tucker Precinct Commander on January 21, 2023. As the Tucker Precinct Commander, Major Harden will oversee all the operations for the precinct, from patrol to investigations. Major Harden is no stranger to Tucker and served as a Sergeant with the Tucker Precinct for quite some time prior to his promotion.
Throughout his extensive career in law enforcement, Major Harden has been assigned to various areas in the region and involved in many roles that include serving as an Officer at the South Precinct and Detective in the Special Victims Unit, specializing in the online sexual exploitation of children and human trafficking, Sergeant at Tucker Precinct, Lieutenant at the South Precinct working in the Support Services Division and SVU, a Captain at North-Central Precinct and SVU and finally in the East Precinct before this promotion to Major over the Tucker Precinct.
Major Harden’s main priorities for the district are to provide the best possible service to the citizens of DeKalb County and work to foster improved partnerships with the community. His focus is on the reduction of any criminal activity through these partnerships and shared responsibility.
The major is married with a son and loves to travel. His goal is to explore the world because life is too short to only see one place.
Congratulations Major Harden! Our district is no doubt safer in Major Harden’s hands.
WinCup
Our district’s member, Wincup, has been recognized for the manufacturing of biodegradable straws, which are now the straws of choice in major sports arenas like Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Yankee Stadium, Staples Center, Lambeau Field and many others.
Wincup launched the biodegradable “Phade” straws in 2020 anticipating restaurants and retailers would target their customers with sustainable messaging. Since its launch, the product has taken off in sports stadiums and is used in venues hosting the Super Bowl, the NCAA National Championship game and PGA Championship.
While these sustainable straws are designed to have a small environmental footprint, the results could lead to a larger economic footprint for our region. Large venues, like Mercedes-Benz Stadium and State Farm Arena, have a competitive edge when booking events because of the recognition they received for diverting 90% of waste from landfills.
Wincup produced more than 250 million Phade straws in 2021 and expects to sell its 1 billionth straw by the end of the month.
Learn more about the economic impact of the Phade straws in this Atlanta Inno article and explore the science behind them on the Wincup website.
NETWorks Food Bank
The NETWorks Cooperative Ministry Food Pantry has officially opened in its new location at 4296 Cowan Road in Tucker!
To show love for the people, Tucker’s VIPs attended the food pantry’s ribbon-cutting on Tuesday, February 14th, Valentine’s Day. The new pantry is a grocery store-style experience for visitors to select the needs of their household. The pantry was created to serve the community in a time of short-term crisis to help eliminate food insecurity.
The new location provides more than just food but is offering new services as well. The NETWorks Cooperative Ministry also offers counseling in an effort to help the unhoused find jobs and homes. TSCID Board Chair, Joey Chapman, has shown his support by donating $1,000, as members begin to contribute. Show your support by donating here.

Black History Month
TSCID is honored to have such diverse representation in public office. We are fortunate to have the hard-working Senator Kim Jackson, Congressman Hank Johnson, Commissioners Lorraine Cochran-Johnson and Steve Bradshaw advocating for our district’s safety and improvement.
We celebrate them during Black History Month and every day of the year. Thank you for all that you do!
TSCID Food Industry
One of the largest industries in our CID is food manufacturing and distribution. Thanks to our district’s advantageous location and proximity to metro Atlanta’s major thoroughfares, many of the country’s and region’s largest food manufacturers have chosen to locate a primary facility in our CID.
Companies like Pepsico, Five Star Food Services, Beverage Control, Flowers Baking Company, Thermopac, Inland Seafood and Prime Meats employ more than 1,000 people. Pepsico has recently broken ground on a $260 million expansion of its Tucker facilities that will create more than 100 additional jobs in our district.
The food manufacturing and distribution industry is only one of the many industries that make our CID incredible. Stay tuned as we continue our district’s industry spotlights in upcoming newsletters.
Tucker Restaurant Week
Tucker Restaurant Week is next week from February 21-26!
Several Tucker dining establishments will be offering special prices and creating specialty menu items throughout the six-day event. Many of the district’s own eateries such as Antico Pizza Tucker, Bite of Korea, Pontoon Brewing and Tucker Brewing Company are participating.

TSCID Meeting and Updates
There will be a public meeting tomorrow, February 16, at Stars and Strikes (1741 Mountain Industrial Boulevard) from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. to discuss the upcoming improvements to the Mountain Industrial Boulevard intersection at Highway 78.
The proposed project involves the installation of a narrow median along Mountain Industrial Boulevard between Greer Circle and Elmdale Drive/Roger Marten Way, with the exception of the bridge deck spanning over US 78/State Route (SR) 410/Stone Mountain Freeway. The project also includes the realignment of the eastbound and westbound exit ramps from US 78/SR 410/Stone Mountain Freeway and the installation of an additional turn lane on both ramps. Traffic signal modifications are also included at both ramp intersections which involve converting the left turn phasing from Mountain Industrial Boulevard onto the US 78 ramps to protected-only and implementing ‘No Right Turn’ on red conditions from the US 78 ramps onto Mountain Industrial Boulevard. Lastly, the intersection of Mountain Industrial Boulevard and Sarr Parkway will be permanently closed. The total project length is approximately 0.8 miles.
Representatives from the CID, City of Tucker and Atlas Consulting will be on hand to answer questions, comments or concerns about the project.
Phases two and three of the new district-wide street lighting installation project are currently underway and scheduled for completion by the end of 2023.
Image360 has begun the installation of more than 100 new street signs throughout the district.
