In early December, the Tucker Summit CID stakeholders, the City of Tucker and members of the DeKalb County police department held a meeting to discuss safety in the district along with possible solutions to curtail the rash of auto break-ins occurring throughout the metro Atlanta area.

Chief Mirtha Ramos responded to questions and assured all attendees that the DeKalb Police Department was working diligently to apprehend and prosecute individuals responsible for crime in the area. The police representatives emphasized that the “quality of life” crimes, crimes often based on moral or value judgments, may give the impression that crime is rampant and out of control — but it is not.

Tucker Summit CID prides itself on being good stewards of its members’ money. While interest rates have been climbing since last year, they seem to be leveling off with a 5.4% rate for the CID in November 2023.

The CID budgeted $7,700 for interest income in 2023 but expects to earn nearly $50,000 this year. The CID has also transitioned to a bank that automatically deposits money into an interest-bearing account, so the organization doesn’t have to maintain a non-performing balance to cover expenses. This transition will earn more interest and decrease the need to manage transfers.

Tucker Summit CID had the honor of sponsoring the Tucker Precinct of the DeKalb County Police Department’s holiday luncheon on November 18.

TSCID board members joined President Emory Morsberger and the police officers for a family-style meal to thank them for their continued hard work in protecting and serving the public.

DeKalb County Board of Commissioners, District 4 Commissioner Steve Bradshaw proposed a change to the County’s budgeting process timeline in a recent meeting.

The proposed change calls for the DeKalb County CEO to submit the proposed budget by September 15 every year to give the Board of Commissioners time to review and approve the budget by December 31, allowing the next fiscal year to begin with the new budget in place. Historically, the previous budget proposals have been submitted by December 15, just before the holiday season, giving the BOC less than two months to review and starting the new fiscal year without an adopted budget in place.
