The Advance DeKalb Infrastructure Committee held its first in a series of workshops at Tucker City Hall on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, to focus on the Tucker Summit CID strategic development area and identify key infrastructure investments needed. Participants included Mayor Frank Auman, City Manager Tami Hanlin and Assistant City Manager John McHenry, Emory Morsberger from the Tucker Summit CID, Toni Hannah and Brooke Perez from Georgia Power, DeKalb Commissioners Steve Bradshaw, Lorraine Cochran-Johnson and Robert Patrick (who represent the Tucker area), as well as members of the Advance DeKalb Infrastructure Committee and the Decide DeKalb staff and board.
Advance DeKalb is a non-profit organization of business investors who are supporting the Decide DeKalb Economic Development Authority’s mission to recruit, retain and expand business opportunities in DeKalb County. Advance DeKalb has two main volunteer committees at present, one that is identifying and advocating for Workforce Development needs, and another that is identifying and advocating for Infrastructure needs for economic development (primarily water, sewer, transportation, transit and related infrastructure projects).
Georgia Power’s Community and Economic Development team is supporting these workshops through data gathering and analysis, and stakeholder engagement.
The group identified areas that will be researched and evaluated, then monitored year-over-year to determine if the targeted opportunities in the strategic plan are being achieved. They also identified water, sewer and transit priorities, so that issues like sewer availability and capacity, water flow and pressure, as well as transit accessibility support these opportunities both for the short-term and longer-term.
