Commissioner Patrick secures $1.8M in federal funds for District 1 and DeKalb County projects
DeKalb County Commissioner Robert Patrick, who represents District 1, recently helped secure a total of $1.8 million in federal funding for two projects in his district and DeKalb County.
Patrick, whose district encompasses DeKalb’s northern portion, worked with U.S. Congressman Rep. Hank Johnson, D-DeKalb, to attain the federal funds.
“I’m proud to work with Congressman Johnson to gain federal funding for these important projects,” Patrick said. “Thanks to his work and that of many others, these funds will help improve the quality of life not just District 1 but for all of DeKalb County.”
The federal funds will go to two projects.
First, the Peachtree Creek Greenway (Phase 1) is getting $800,000. When completed, the trail will stretch 12 miles along the creek’s North Fork and connect Atlanta, Brookhaven, Chamblee, unincorporated DeKalb and Doraville. The trail currently spans 1.3 miles in Brookhaven, from North Druid Hills Road to Briarwood Road. The new funds will help it expand to eventually connect with the Atlanta BeltLine and the Path400 trail.
The entire Peachtree Greenway is projected to be finished by 2030 which would coincide with the expected completion of the BeltLine.
Second, DeKalb-Peachtree Airport (PDK) is getting $1 million for the airport’s design and administration building’s demolition. The administration building, which dates back to before World War II, will be torn down and replaced with a new facility that will also house the airport’s customs office.
That project is part of PDK’s master plan, which includes opening a new Sky Harbour terminal and making sure there’s ample facilities for newer, quieter planes to use the airport, thereby lessening noise issues.
