TSCID Welcomes New Board Member, gatc’s President and COO Carl Deckers

The Global (formerly German) American Trade Center (gatc) has been a member of the CID since 2011 and houses 25 to 30 European companies in its U.S. base of operations. President and COO Carl Deckers has been with gatc for more than 18 years and has witnessed the organization’s growth with nearly 50 of its companies “graduating” to their own locations throughout the country. For example, Lindner Group, which designs corporate spaces, stayed within the district to open its own facilities.

As someone who lives by the motto, “If you want to change things, you have to be involved,” it was only natural for Carl to accept the TSCID board nomination. He has already seen the great improvements the district has made to increase property values, including reducing crime, and he is most excited about helping to improve the transit and traffic issues along the TSCID corridor.

“We are so excited to welcome Carl to our board of directors,” said TSCID President Emory Morsberger, “His experience and dedication to improving our district is a great asset to us.”

gatc also participated in the TSCID “Back to Business” Job Fair on May 12 and is looking to fill positions for warehouse associates, customer service, and accounting roles. Please reach out to Carl if your skills fit these positions or refer to a person who does.

The District’s One-Stop Shop for Signs, Designs and More, Image360 Tucker

Earl and Teresa Walker along with their team at Image360 Tucker were a huge help in the “Back to Business” Job Fair last week at Stone Ridge Event Center. The visual communications company not only supplied the flyers used to advertise the event, but also designed and produced the on-site signage and social distancing decals. In addition to all of those, they also installed the promotional road signs along Mountain Industrial Boulevard.

Earl, Sr. Vice President and Creative Director, and his wife, Teresa, Image360’s CEO, who have been in business together for 23 years and married for 36, first located their business in Tucker in 2001 and moved to their current location at 2725 Mountain Industrial Boulevard in 2016. They say the location is perfect for their business because of the ample space available for their equipment as well as their accessibility to other CID members. While they thought their customer base would be more retail in nature, they quickly discovered that their location was ideal for the B2B needs of neighboring businesses.

Image360 includes a myriad of products and services, including (but not limited to) graphics, signage, sign audits, displays, postcards, booklets, business cards and more! Basically, if you can touch it, they can create it. They do it all – just don’t ask them to carry a 1,100 lb. sign a mile into a wooded park for installation. They’ve learned their lesson!

Give Image360 a call at 770.939.0902 to learn what they can create for you!

Spotlight on Robert L. Brown,

GDOT Board Member for Congressional District 4

Robert L. Brown, Jr.
Georgia Department of Transportation board member Robert L. Brown, Jr., was instrumental in moving the Flintstone Drive at Hugh Howell Road improvement project forward, which had its groundbreaking in front of the new Smoke Rise Elementary School on April 13.

With 11 years of service on GDOT’s board, Brown is passionate about addressing and resolving transportation challenges. His background in architecture provides a unique insight into the district’s infrastructure issues and the necessary actions to take in order to achieve improvement.

Brown’s key to being productive is staying motivated. Every day, he wakes up with a mission in mind, a mindset to do something great, a goal to make a difference, and a pledge to help someone. He knows that the community wants to achieve big things and he is proud to be a part of a strong team to help with those achievements.

“Back to Business” Job Fair – A Success

The TSCID “Back to Business” Job Fair, held last week at the Stone Ridge Event Center, was a great success! The district’s top businesses, like PepsiCo, Prime Meats, Clarian Place Childcare, RAM Tools, Tucker Brewing Company and more, participated and were ready to hire. In fact, we know one applicant who came to the job fair on his lunch break was offered a job on the spot for double his current pay. He told event organizers he was so happy and planned to turn in his two-week notice immediately!

WorkSource DeKalb had their Career Mobile Unit available to help the nearly 200 applicants with their resumes and interview skills before entering the venue. It is through our incredible partnerships with Decide DeKalb, City of Tucker, Georgia Piedmont Technical College, Tucker-Northlake CID and more that we were able to bring this amazing job fair to the area and get our businesses and potential employees “Back to Business!”

We look forward to hosting similar events throughout the year.

To help promote the job Fair, Emory Morsberger participated in several media interviews, including WABE-NPR’s A Closer Look, WSB-AM with Scott Slade, The DeKalb Champion and this national story that appeared in the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

Stone Ridge Event Center Spotlight

The CID is very fortunate to have such an elegant facility like the Stone Ridge Event Center located in our district. Not only was the Event Center the perfect place to host the “Back to Business” Job Fair, but the 20,000 square foot property is the ideal venue to hold banquets, holiday parties, indoor or outdoor weddings and more!

Now that gathering restrictions have been loosened, the Event Center’s calendar has been filling quickly with virtually every weekend completely booked! This also means that Stone Ridge Event Center is hiring! Contact Laurie Wexel for more information.

FODAC Donates 16 Pallets of Medical Equipment to India

The district’s most charitable organization, Friends of Disabled Adults & Children (FODAC), has gathered donations to ship 16 pallets of durable medical equipment (DME) to aid India, which is experiencing a deadly COVID-19 surge.

Critical equipment such as ventilators, anesthesia machines, respiratory supplies, and other life-saving equipment was picked up at the FODAC warehouse to be shipped by The UPS Foundation. FODAC is committed to supplying aid to areas affected by COVID while continuing its mission to serve people with disabilities and their families.
TSCID is incredibly fortunate to have such humanitarians in our district! Please visit the FODAC website if you wish to make a donation toward their mission.
