Emory and FODAC to Romania
The Power of People
Americans, despite a variety of supply chain issues and rising costs, do not live under a threat of war. That is not the issue for other countries, like Ukraine. However, through my involvement on a mission trip to Ukraine, I was reminded that ordinary people can often solve insurmountable problems.

My position as president with Tucker Summit CID has provided me with deep connections to supply chain and logistics companies. Combined with actively participating in the Gwinnett Rotary for years, I felt compelled to make some key connections to help aid a fellow Rotarian on his mission to locate and ship critical medical and surgical supplies to those affected by the unprovoked war in Ukraine.

I worked together with an international relay of humanitarian volunteers, and our friend – Tucker Summit CID member – Chris Brand, of Friends of Disabled Adults and Children (FOCAC), a nonprofit specializing in the procurement and shipment of medical supplies, food and other goods.

Once on the ground in Ukraine, I met with business people, fellow Rotarians and Ukrainian refugees. From air raids around Kyiv to miles of semi-trucks backed up along roads unable to deliver supplies, I was struck by the resilience of people, the ongoing problem solving that is happening and the resolve to move mountains to help those in need.

I’m grateful to our generous members like Thermopac and Black & Black Surgical for their donations of ready-to-eat meals and surgical equipment along with the TSCID board members who supported this trip – my first vacation in three years!

While emotional, it strengthened my resolve to be a connector to help move projects forward, be it here in the district or around the world.

Help support our local businesses, like those from our very own Tucker Summit CID, to secure and support additional relief efforts by visiting and contributing to FODAC’s website, fodac.org, and help those facing the most desperate of circumstances.

Council Member Monferdini
As a lifelong project manager and 21-year Tucker resident, Noelle Monferdini uses her organizational skills and love for the community to serve on Tucker’s City Council. She’s a down-to-earth public servant who is happy to sit on a constituent’s garage floor and talk about what they think is best for Tucker.
Council member Monferdini has become well-acquainted with the CID over the years and is grateful for the organization’s hard work in maintaining and repairing the district’s infrastructure. Transportation and mobility logistics are at the heart of the City’s economic growth, and she understands the importance of keeping the roads maintained, and improving traffic flow to get commuters to and from work. Monferdini feels that Tucker’s access to the industrial corridor places it in a prime spot and she supports the CID and the City working together to keep a keen focus on the district.
Having been a part of incorporating Tucker as a City, Monferdini has found it an honor to serve on the City Council and hopes that during her remaining two-year term, she can continue to advocate for the community and advance economic development.
Jersey Mike's and Bite of Korea
We’d like to welcome dog groomers, Scenthound, to the district! The newest Hugh Howell Marketplace business opened its doors on Monday, June 27. View the ribbon-cutting here.
The national subway sandwich chain Jersey Mike’s and popular, local pop-up Korean eatery Bite of Korea are also opening soon at Hugh Howell Marketplace.

While Jersey Mike’s doesn’t list a specific date for opening, Bite of Korea is on schedule to bring its featured dishes of bulgogi quesadillas, soy garlic fried chicken, kimchi and japchae to Tucker in August!

Stay tuned for more development news and updates as additional tenants confirm and open in the Hugh Howell Marketplace. For leasing inquiries, please visit the Branch Properties website.
Congrats Commissioners Spears
Congratulations to DeKalb County District 2 Commissioner Michelle Long Spears for winning the June runoff election against her opponent Marshall Orson.

Due to a technical error, the initial results from the May primaries showed Spears in third place. Following a recount, Spears was officially headed for a runoff — resulting in her victory.

We look forward to the progress DeKalb County will experience with Commissioner Spears on the board.
Pontoon Brewing
Our district is getting another brewery! Inspired by the south’s beautiful lakes and waterways, Pontoon Brewing embraces the “Pontoon Lifestyle” when crafting its flavorful beers.

Located in Sandy Springs, Pontoon Brewing is opening its second location at 4720 Stone Drive at the end of summer. Follow the brewery’s progress and updates on their Facebook page.
Decide DeKalb
The Decide DeKalb Development Authority is constantly on the move to improve our district! We’re excited for all the news happening in our community!

Congratulations to Decide DeKalb president Dorian DeBarr for being selected to serve on the Public/Private Partnership Council for the Urban Land Institute. DeBarr plans to impart key-learnings from DeKalb County and Decide DeKalb to the council and intends to identify key actionable ideas and concepts to execute within our communities.

We’d also like to offer congratulations to Decide DeKalb Economic Development Vice President Randi Mason for being accepted into the Atlanta Regional Commission Leadership Program. The 2022 Regional Leadership Institute class will take place in Savannah from September 18-23 and explore regional issues and strategic resolutions.
Concrete Vendor
TSCID has selected Construction 57, Inc. as the concrete vendor to begin repairs to necessary and critical infrastructure within our district. The work encompasses repairing broken catch basins, curb radii, pedestrian ramps, sidewalks, potholes and more.

To view the scope of the repair project, please visit our website. To report areas in need of attention, please contact Emory Morsberger.

TSCID Employer Shuttle Services Workshop

The Tucker Summit CID employers are invited to a one-hour employer shuttle feasibility workshop via video conference. We are making plans for a shuttle bus service in the Jimmy Carter/Mountain Industrial corridor that will connect workers to employers. The workshop will explore The Incredible Corridor Transit Feasibility Study findings and ask employers to identify their specific needs. A coordinated shuttle bus service plan for early implementation will be created with your input to best meet the needs of your employees.

Please respond to the doodle poll your best options to attend.
